The International Assembly Adopt-A-School Project

     adopt school-1

   adopt school-2

     adopt school-3

   adopt school-4

Our Adopt-A-School Project was a great success and a heartfelt blessing! We delivered 160 backpacks to students at the Mwanje Primary School in Malawi this year in two separate trips, thanks to Josiah Tlou and his colleague Patricia Proudfoot Kelly from Virginia Tech. The International Assembly is indebted to you both! All of the students in Grades 7 & 8 and some selected students in Grade 6 received backpacks with an attached nametag, imprinted with our IA-NCSS logo.

This is how Pat described her visit to the Mwanje School: “The university students (who delivered the backpacks) were wowed!! You've never seen anything like it! The 8th graders were so quiet at first, so well behaved as we were distributing the backpacks (they had their choice of red or blue). I had permanent markers for their names and they also wrote their names on one part of the backpack to protect them from theft. Then, the head teacher jumped up and started singing and dancing and the kids just went crazy. It was a village celebration!! A drum appeared and the boy drummed and they sang and danced and we danced with them. Then we went to Standard 7 and did it all again.”

Josiah made a follow up visit to the school and recalled: “When I got to Mwanje,  the schools in Malawi were on holiday, but, I called the Head Teacher and said that I was coming the next day to deliver the remaining backpacks.  We were totally surprised that many children were there when we came.  It was a moving site.  We gave the backpacks to the teachers and Head Teacher to put tags on them first before they distributed them. There was excitement everywhere and they automatically broke into a beautiful song of thanksgiving.  They danced and danced with a rhythm. It was spectacular!!  I was so engrossed, I forgot where I was!”

Join us in donating funds to cover the remainder of the cost of these backpacks. We are seeking 25 people who could donate $20 each, and we will have it covered. Please send donations to Masato Ogawa and be a part of this wonderful project!
