Charter of The International Assembly of Social Educators

The International Assembly of Social Educators is an affiliated organization within The National Council for the Social Studies. The International Assembly of Social Educators upholds the principles of EQUALITY and SOCIAL JUSTICE with regard to the education of all persons of all ages, cultural origins and religious persuasions. The charter is grounded in the belief that all people have the right to the freedom of speech in presenting their viewpoints and democratic decision-making with regard to their governance. We respect their right to a quality of life and will uphold all efforts to maintain an environment which is capable of ecologically sustaining all existing species. The International Assembly will therefore support all actions to further these principles.

The International Assembly has Five Articles:
  1. The International Assembly provides an opportunity for NCSS members to meet with members from other countries who are involved with and/or are interested in the implementation of Social Education for all people in both educational and non-educational settings.
  2. The International Assembly organises an annual forum where both International Assembly members and other interested persons can meet to discuss matters of common interest and concern.

  3. The forum of the International Assembly is organised to facilitate Round Table Discussions of topics relating to issues arising from research and/or the implementation or development of social education in international settings.

  4. The International Assembly seeks to establish ways and means to assist both its own members and other NCSS members to maintain contact and dialogue relating to interests that may develop as a result of the annual Assembly meetings.

  5. The International Assembly seeks to use its good offices and contacts to introduce members from other countries to full participation in National Council for the Social Studies.

The main purpose of the International Assembly is to provide an opportunity for social educators from international regions to share, interact and develop ideas, approaches and solutions to problems and issues that we all face in addressing and implementing social education in our respective educational settings. It also seeks to represent an international perspective on the interests and concerns of all social educators to the Board of NCSS.

Membership is open to all members of NCSS who are interested in the development and implementation of social studies within the global village.
